In a time of hurricanes, financial uncertainties and a presidential contest that seems to have the world more divided than ever before, Professor Maya Angelou's poem, 'And Still I Rise', is a beacon of light at the end of this very long tunnel.

This is from her volume of poetry 'And Still I Rise' published in 1978 but rings true even in 2012.

In a world that sometimes seems to be one vast obstacle after another, in a world where people appear to have lowered their values, in a world that is troubled in so many ways...this poem lends a hand to the mind and is a much needed emotional lift to the soul as well.

The human spirit is an amazing machine that can rise above even the most adverse conditions...but sometimes we can all use a little motivation...today this was mine.
