I've never particularly been a fan of American Idol. The show apparently has few fans left. They're calling it quits after the upcoming season. There's a lot of competition in that genre, and Idol's ratings have steadily slipped over the past few seasons. Producers have vowed to present the strongest talent lineup yet for the final season. Special invitations for VIP auditions have been sent out via Tami B Casting. Tami Brandel also casts for The Amazing Race,Survivor and Hell’s Kitchen. They decided to invite some roots musicians to try out. The first was Gurf Morlix of Austin, Texas. They also invited Lafayette's own Kevin Sekahni. Kevin gained notoriety and critical acclaim as front man of the now defunct Mercy Brothers. I had the pleasure of hosting a Downtown Alive at which they performed. It was rousing, to say the least!

The invitations state they're looking for male and female performers, aged 15-28. Gurf is 64. Kevin's in his 40's. Tami says she's the "Real" casting director of Hollywood. That speaks volumes about the current state of Network television.
