Contrary to what those unhappy people from the rest of the country might think about life here in beautiful south Louisiana, most of us don't cross paths with alligators on a daily basis. It seems that Florida residents, however, don't have to even leave their houses to run across an alligator; the gators there make house calls!

Viera resident Marie Maxwell says she she heard a knock at the door of her home while watching Jeopardy. She opened the door to find an alligator she thinks was longer than 6 feet in length looking up at her.

Maxwell quickly shut the door and called police, but the gator was gone by the time they arrived. Maxwell believes the alligator headed for a pond behind her house.
