Acadiana & Vermilion Catholic Advance To State Finals
The Acadiana Wrecking Rams and Vermilion Catholic Screaming Eagles have advanced to the state title games in their respective classifications, after winning semifinal match-ups in the LHSAA football playoffs on Friday night.
The Loreauville Tigers and Jennings Bulldogs weren’t as lucky however, as both were eliminated in close loses in their respective semifinal games.
Acadiana, who defeated Destehan, 35-7, and Vermilion Catholic, who downed Cedar Creek, 33-8, move on to the LHSAA/State Farm Prep Classic, scheduled for December 12-14 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Both will play on Saturday, December 14, with VC scheduled to play at noon, and Acadiana slated for 8 o’clock.
Meanwhile, Loreauville and Jennings both suffered heartbreaking loses, with the Tigers falling to Many, 27-26, while the Bulldgos lost to Livonia, 25-20.
Taking a quick look at all of the playoff brackets:
In Class 5A, top-seeded Acadiana rolled past 4th-seeded Destrehan, 35-7.
The Wrecking Rams will take on 2nd-seeded Parkway, who sneaked past 14th-seeded Covington, 28-27, in the state title game.
Acadiana and Parkway will play for the Class 5A crown on Saturday, December 14, at 8 pm.
In Class 4A, 2nd-seeded Karr will take on 4th-seeded East Jefferson in the title game.
Karr shutout 3rd-seeded Landry/Walker, 29-0, on Friday, while East Jefferson upset top-seeded Neville, 18-15.
In Class 3A, 5th-seeded Jennings suffered a tough 25-20 loss to top-seed Livonia on Friday night.
Livonia will meet 3rd-seeded Union Parish, who shutout 10th-seeded Amite, 40-0, in the finals.
In the Class 2A bracket, 5th-seeded Loreauville was eliminated, in that hard-fought 27-26 defeat to top-seeded Many.
Many will square off will 3rd-seeded Kinder in the finals, after Kinder defeated 2nd-seeded Winnfield, 28-21.
The Class A title game will feature top-seeded Haynesville and 2nd-seeded Mangham.
Haynesville defeated 5th-seeded Kentwood, 31-14, while Mangham cruised past 3rd-seeded West St. John, 56-24.
The Division I finals will have 2nd-seeded Byrd facing 5th-seeded Rummel.
In Division II, top-seeded John Curtis will take on 2nd-seeded University Lab in the finals
2nd-seeded Calvary Baptist will face off with 4th-seeded Hannan in the Division III title game.
Finally, in Division IV, top-seeded Vermilion Catholic, who scored that 33-8 win over 4th-seeded Cedar Creek, will take on 6th-seeded St. Frederick in the state title game.
St. Frederick eliminated 7th-seeded Southern Lab, 19-6, on Friday night.
The VC/St. Frederick Division IV state title game is scheduled for Saturday, December 14, at noon.
