A Glance At The Grand 16 Shooting One Year Later

It has been one year today since the tragic Grand 16 shooting that turned the nation's eyes upon the Hub City. As we all shuffled through a whirlwind of emotions, we struggled to understand "why." That tragic event was felt by everyone in Acadiana, none more so than the family and friends of the victims, Jillian Johnson and Mayci Breaux.

With the tragedy still fresh in our collective conscience, throngs of people fill the Blackham Coliseum for the Unite, Honor, Heal Ceremony that was put together in only a few days

We remain forever grateful that the shooting did not yield more tragedy as we received reports of the other injured victims who pulled through to return to their families.

Nearly four months following the shooting, Grand 16 management reopens the doors of the theater as a commitment to help heal some of the wounds that left scars on Acadiana.

"Lafayette Strong" quickly becomes a rallying cry for the Hub City rocked by the shooting. Residents and businesses unite to offer products that are still seen all over Lafayette.

We have come to learn of the victims as two beautiful souls who offered so much to those lucky enough to have known them. As days passed following the shooting, our community learned so much about Jillian and Mayci--their hobbies, their careers, their families.

Yet, out of this horrific tragedy, Acadian remembers the victims, Jillian and Mayci, by uniting and celebrating their lives that ended far too soon.
