January 10, 2013 Dean Mary Olive McPhaul passed away on January 8, 2013. In my "USL" days in the Department of Student Personnel, I always looked forward to meetings with her because she was so kind and encouraging, and seemed to really "get" what it was like to be young and on your own for the first time
July 6, 2012 When I lived on campus at USL, about 50 of us shared a pay phone at the end of the hall. We couldn't have dreamed of the technology today's UL students will soon take for granted.

August 22, 2011 When 'Three Times A Lady' was a current song, I worked and lived in student housing at what was then called USL. I made some lifelong friends in Bonin, Evangeline and Baker-Huger back in the days when we yelled out "Man in the hall!" to announce that the vending machine guy was in the building, because males were not allowed beyond the lobby then. Well, UL is moving forward with plans to improve student housing options, and that necessitates tearing down some of the old facilities, including three of the dorms surrounding the Rose Garden, bounded by University Ave., McKinley St. and Boucher Dr.
