Dick Clark, ‘America’s Oldest Teenager’, is dead at 82
I just got hit by a freight train! My friend & longtime colleague, Jaycee, just walked across the hall to inform me of the death of Dick Clark. I never had the privilege of meeting him, but Dick Clark has been a role model and an icon to me since childhood. I used to watch American Bandstand religiously as a boy. I’ve always admired the way he did his job without making it look like a job.
He once told Oprah Winfrey two things during a TV special that I strive to emulate. “I return my phone calls”, and “It’s not my job to foist my tastes on the American public”. He was often referred to as “America’s oldest teenager”. His passing is an unkind reminder that we don’t get keep the gift our youth.
