Memorial Day is the day we take to remember our veterans and those who are currently serving and defending our country. One of the most popular things to do on this holiday is light the bar-b-que pit and burn some meat.

In my family, we usually let the men to the grilling because, well, they are the experts, right? Well fellas, are you really don't this whole bar-b-que thing correctly? If you are following these six useful steps and rule of the grill, then you will be able to answer 'yes.'

  1. Always clean your grates before starting to cook.
    • That's just all burnt and nasty stuff.
  2. Be sure not to use too much lighter fluid.
    • Ain't nobody want a steak that tastes like lighter fluid!
  3. Make sure the grill is hot hot.
    • Especially if you are cooking a steak and want it to be juicy.
  4. Don't always use direct heat.
    • Basically, don't keep that steak or meat directly on your fire.
  5. Keep the meat in one place.
    • This is the best way to keep all of the juices in.
  6. Be careful how much you cook at once.
    • You don't want your chicken to taste like sausage and vice versa. (Wait, that doesn't sound half bad!)

But who am I to tell you what to do? You live in Louisiana. You probably had this grilling thing down pat by the time you were 2. No big deal.

So these tips are probably just for me because I usually mess it all up. If I tried to grill, I would open up the pit and see nothing but burnt.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend and may the grill gods be ever in your favor!
