I love Halloween like some people like Christmas, and one of the reasons is because I have another excuse to watch scary movies. There are 5 full weekends left until Halloween arrives, and I've put together a list of 5 of my favorite horror movies for your viewing enjoyment, one for each weekend. I also have a 6th 'bonus' movie that you can either watch on the 30th or, if you're brave enough, Halloween night itself.

There are two movies each per category: Classics, which are in B&W and extremely influential on horror movies and movies in general, Too Close For Comfort, movies that are disturbing because they could (maybe) happen to you, and Seasonal, movies that are best watching around or on Halloween day. Enjoy!

Nosferatu: A Symphony Of Horror (1922)

Nosferatu is widely considered one of the most important movies in cinema history. It is a silent film and may not scare you like today's 'jump scare' movies do, but the movie is still disturbing and unsettling almost a century after it was made.

Night Of The Living Dead (1968)

Before George Romero's Night of the Living Dead, zombies in movies were just hypnotized slaves of their voodoo masters. Romero turned zombies into the flesh - eating monsters we know today, while also introducing the 'rules of zombies' we also know so well. Without this movie, there's no Walking Dead or zombie craze.

    Scream (1996)

Director Wes Craven, creator of the original Nightmare On Elm Street, created a movie that still gets even after seeing it dozens of times over the years. Scream made horror successful again in the mid 90s and was so effective because the horror seemed real enough that it could happen to you.

    The Ring (2002)

While The Ring involves supernatural horror, the idea of a creepy urban legend turning out to be true is one we can all identify with. I have seen this movie only once, during the daytime, and have not been able to bring myself to watch it again.

    Trick R Treat (2009)

Trick R Treat is made up of 4 interconnected stories that are all set on Halloween night and involve characters in each story crossing paths throughout the movie. It's genuinely scary and disturbing, and is perfect for the weekend or night before Halloween. The honor of being watched on Halloween night itself goes to the 'bonus' movie on the list...

    Halloween (1978)

John Carpenter's original Halloween is, in my opinion, the ultimate movie to watch on Halloween night. It's a perfect movie in every respect, with a terrifying soundtrack and a story that could happen anywhere and at anytime. Michael Myers may have survived to the point of becoming a joke, but in this movie, he is creeping death itself. I always watch Halloween on Halloween night when everyone else at home is asleep and the lights are all off.
