Prince became a Jehovah's Witness in 2001, and was so dedicated to his new faith that he actually went door to door to tell others about it. In 1993, Prince became 'The Artist Formerly Known As Prince,' replacing his name and brand with only a symbol. The symbol was a stylized combination of the ancient symbols for man and woman, designed when Prince's producer said he needed a symbol of some kind. Prince was all set to release 'The Black Album' but ordered it to be recalled one week before it was to go public. Prince claimed he made the decision because of a 'spiritual epiphany.' The Black Album was eventually released 7 years later.

Prince had given away 2 albums beforehand, but he caused a controversy by snubbing Columbia Records with his release of 'Planet Earth' as a free addition to the UK paper The Mail.

Many reports are saying that Prince lived at Paisley Park, the Minneapolis compound where he was found earlier this week. An anonymous insider told E! that Prince didn't live at Paisley Park, instead keeping a house nearby. He did have a bed at the elaborate compound, as well as other luxuries.
