Samuel Dufner, 37, in an attempt to get his students excited about science, may have taken it a step too far...or did he?

Dufner, a teacher in Salem, Oregon was just trying to get his students excited about science, but he may have gotten them a bit too excited.

You may have seen those big transformers in movies where when someone gets between them, a big bolt of electricity shoots from them and into the person standing there.  The guy who developed that technology was named Nikola Tesla.  The instrument that produces this reaction is called the Tesla coil.  The coil can burn your skin temporarily or if set to high or allowed in one place too long, permanently.

Sam demonstrated the Tesla coil on his own arm in front of the class.  After, EVERYONE wanted to do it.  So he had them line up and lightly burned different shapes on their arms.  One student even had him burn I [HEART] Mom onto his arm.

One of the parents complained to the authorities and the police arrested Dufner.  He's on administrative leave.  If found guilty, he could get 5 years in prison for EACH student he burned.

Was he wrong?  Did he go too far?
