On July 13th, 1985, a massive concert to benefit Ethiopian famine relieve was held on 2 continents. Live Aid featured 58 bands. There was a total o16 hours of music. 72,000 attended the performances at London's Wembley Stadium. Another 100,000 packed Philadelphia's John F. Kennedy Stadium. The event was organized by Bob Geldof of the "Boomtown Rats" and Midge Ure of Ultravox. Phil Collins performed at the London event, then flew across the Atlantic and performed in Philadelphia. The event was carried live by the BBC, and beamed around the world, using 13 satellites. More than 1.5 billion viewed the epic broadcast. The BBC reported the following day that Live Aid had raised more than 77 million dollars.
