The Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival, the state’s oldest chartered harvest festival, will celebrate 79 years of tradition and fun for the entire family this upcoming Labor Day weekend, August 28th-September 1st.

The Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival will be held in beautiful Morgan City, centrally located 90 miles from New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Lafayette. The majority of the festival’s activities are scheduled to take place within Morgan City’s beautiful Downtown Historic District and are free to the public. Highlights of the five-day festival include world-renowned food, uninterrupted live music, traditional events, children’s activities and new events.

Official Ribbon Cutting: the official ribbon cutting will open the festival Thursday, August 28th at 5:00 pm on Second Street under the US Highway 90 Bridge.

Live Music: live and continuous free music will bring Downtown to life at the Heritage Music Stage. Bright and upcoming local artists and legends will be featured, including Tommy G & Stormy Weather, Drunk Punch Ponies, Chubby Carrier, Mojeaux, Amanda Shaw, Kevin Naquin and the Ossun Playboys, and many more!

Rides and games: Mitchell Brothers Carnival rides and games begin at 5 pm on Thursday and continue through Monday at 9 pm. Admission bracelets will be available Thursday, August 28th from 5 to 9 pm, and Monday, September 1st from 12 noon to 4 pm and 5 to 9 pm. The bracelets are $25.00 each.

Children's Day Activities: children's field & game events begin on Saturday, August 30th at 9 am.  Activities including sack races, three-legged races, and more will be available for children of all ages. Parents and children will be entertained by professional storytellers after the field and game events. Appropriately decorated bicycles, wagons, strollers, and four-wheelers are welcome to participate in the Children’s Day Mini Street Parade, beginning at 11 AM on Satuday.

The 51st Labor Day Art Show & Sale: beginning on Wednesday, August 27th and continuing through Thursday, September 20th, located at the Everett Street Gallery downtown. Daily viewing hours are during the festival from 11 am to 5 pm.

26th Annual Cajun Culinary Classic: your taste buds and stomach will thank you for attending the Culinary Classic, a showcase of local "home style" Cajun & Creole dishes, in addition to a wide selection of desserts and other cuisines. The Cajun Culinary Classic is open 5 pm to 11 pm Friday, 12 noon to 11 pm Saturday & Sunday, and 12 noon to 9 pm Monday. Proceeds benefit area non-profit groups and civic organizations
