18 Wheeler Overturns On I-49 Causing Traffic Delays

UPDATE - Two lanes on I-49 northbound have been re-opened. Authorities expect to be in the area till about 6:00 p.m. as they continue to try to upright the truck.

An 18 wheeler tanker truck has flipped over on I-49 northbound between I-10 and the Pont De Mouton exit.

Lafayette Police and personnel from the Lafayette Fire Department's Haz-Mat Unit is on the scene assessing the situation. Authorities are still trying to figure out the type of material that was inside the 18 wheeler.

All traffic on I-49 northbound is being diverted. The southbound lane was closed as well but has since been re-opened.

Lafayette Police say the truck is the only vehicle involved in the crash and there are no reported injuries at this time.

There was another accident reported to us by a listener who was involved in a multi-car pileup on I-10 Westbound before the University exit, which is not far from the I-49 overture.
