Lafayette Parish officials are investigating hundreds of bags containing decomposing animal remains that were found in the Carencro area.

At first, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office thought the bags contained domesticated animals, sending shock throughout the community—but upon further investigation, officials say the carcasses "appear to be possums, armadillos, and turtles."

The bags were discovered off of Debutante Road in a northern Lafayette Parish and according to KLFY the state veterinarian even though the bags contain carcasses, they are still considered waste.

So technically the same rules apply when dumping garbage. No property owner should allow garbage to accumulate on property. So that may be a violation.

An investigation into the incident continues.
